Welcome to my website
Dear Lawrence Community:
This past year and a half with COVID has been a stressful time for our community. For those families who have been directly impacted by sickness or death, I offer my sincere condolences and wish the best for you.
Most life changing situations tend to show the true character of a person or community, and I believe our character shined. In the midst of COVID, we realized the importance of health care professionals and essential workers and the difficult task they have to keep our community safe and running. I know those on the front lines of this pandemic and those who have been directly affected by the loss of business or job are emotionally and physically stretched to the breaking point. There were and continue to be serious challenges.
As a community, we continue to do what was important and necessary, but not always comfortable, such as wearing masks and social distancing. Lawrence has come together and showed its resilient character through our driving spirit of community. I am grateful for your efforts and am proud to be part a community that is willing to make the sacrifices to ensure safety for all.
I am running for re-election to the Lawrence City Commission to further the work I've started, from hiring a new city manager to a complete review of our priorities, operations and facilities. Great strides have been made, changes are occurring, but more work needs to be done.
We must continue to look for efficiencies in spending, continue to insist on transparency and priority-based budgeting, follow a strategic plan, and make decisions about infrastructure, growth, economic development, environmental sustainability and public safety that pay not only for today, but also for the tomorrow that our children and grandchildren will inherit.
As we strive to be a more progressive community, we must work to ensure that all Lawrence residents are treated equitably and that they can get their basic needs met in the areas of affordable housing and food security. We must assure our public safety needs are met, that those with mental health conditions are treated for their illness instead of incarcerated, that those who can pay do, and that we put policies in place that lessen the burden on those who can’t.
I want to use my nearly six years of experience as a City Commissioner, and skills as a Kansas certified dispute resolution provider (mediation), a former small business owner, and a licensed professional geologist to better Lawrence. I will continue to ask the hard questions, listen and learn, look for solutions, attend community meetings, make data-driven decisions, and tirelessly negotiate for you.
I ask for your vote for
